~ New Charts Hub brings together official charts from six ASEAN countries for music fans, artists and industry professionals ~
23rd January 2025 – IFPI, representing the recording industry worldwide, has today announced the launch of The Official Southeast Asia Charts, a regional hub housing the official weekly music charts for six countries – Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The launch of the Official Philippines Chart and the Official Vietnam Chart mark the first time ever in these countries that official, industry-backed charts are available.
In the inaugural weekly chart in the Philippines, Pinoy R&B star Dionela took the top spot with his viral hit Marilag. Released in November of 2024, the track is one of three by the artist in the top 10. In Vietnam another domestic artist took #1; Dương Domic, with his track Mất Kết Nối. Eight of the top 10 tracks this week were by Vietnamese artists, showing the popularity of local content in this fast-growing music market.
The existing charts in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand will be rebranded as the Official Indonesia Chart, the Official Malaysia Chart, the Official Singapore Chart, and the Official Thailand Chart respectively.
All six charts will present the top 20 tracks in each market every week, showcasing the most popular music from local and international artists. For the first time, music fans will be able to follow their favourite artists and keep up to date with the biggest tracks across the region in a central hub at the Official Southeast Asia Charts website (www.officialseacharts.com), or via the related social media channels on Instagram and Facebook. Each country will also host their own charts launch events in the coming months, featuring exclusive artist performances and industry discussions.
Reacting to the news, Shridhar Subramaniam, President, Asia and Middle East at Sony Music Entertainment and Chairman of the IFPI Asia Regional Executive Board, said:
“We are thrilled to announce the launch of IFPI’s official Southeast Asia charts, which aims to elevate the region’s artists and connect them with a global audience. This unified platform will provide a launchpad for artists, giving them a stage to showcase their talents and celebrate their successes. Meanwhile, fans will gain a curated destination to explore the vast and exciting musical landscape of Southeast Asia.”
Celebrating the launch of the chart Vikki Oakley, IFPI CEO said:
“Southeast Asia has a rich music tradition, with passionate fans who engage with a diverse range of local and regional genres as well as the biggest international superstars. The region is also a hotbed of music talent, and with the Official Southeast Asia Charts, there is now a platform to showcase this talent across the region and beyond. As IFPI, we look forward to working with the industry to develop this asset further and to celebrating the next global artists to emerge from this region.
“Today, we also celebrate the first ever official #1 singles in the Philippines and Vietnam, and it is wonderful to see that domestic artists will be remembered as the first to top these rankings. Congratulations to Dionela and Dương Domic for these important milestones, and for embodying the talent and artistry which runs through this region.”
Supported by the recorded music industry, the charts combine streams from global platforms Apple Music, Deezer, Spotify and YouTube as well as regional services such as Langit Musik. The charts are managed by IFPI with the close collaboration of national industry bodies ASIRI (Indonesia), RIM (Malaysia), RIAS (Singapore) and TECA (Thailand).
The charts are built on data prepared by BMAT, in accordance with IFPI’s global charts principles and methodologies. As well as the weekly charts updates, music fans in the region can look forward to a host of exclusive artist content at the official music hub of Southeast Asia.
About the Official Southeast Asia Charts
The Official Southeast Asia Charts are a collection of weekly streaming singles charts – the Official Indonesia Chart, Official Malaysia Chart, Official Philippines Chart, Official Singapore Chart, Official Thailand Chart and Official Vietnam Chart. The data collection week runs from Friday to Thursday, with the charts released at www.officialseacharts.com and on the Official Southeast Asia Instagram and Facebook accounts the following Tuesday.
All charts include chart-eligible streams from Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube and Deezer, while the Official Indonesia Charts also includes Langit Musik. In accordance with IFPI’s global chart principles, streams from each market are weighted to take into account the difference in economic value between the free and paid tiers of streaming services. This delivers charts which reflect the volume and the value of streams across the region, celebrating the biggest songs of the week.
